TSOGO Sun’s Golden Horse Casino recently announced the appointment of its new communications manager, Lunga Ngubane. With a good track record and over 10 years of experience in the hospitality and gaming industry, Ngubane has served in various positions within Tsogo Sun, starting out as a graduate learner and working his way up to his current position.

He says: “Growing up, I was quite indecisive about what I wanted to do after school. At different points, I wanted to be a doctor, policeman, pilot and even a social worker. Eventually, I was able to get a better idea of the career path I wanted to pursue. After matriculating, I obtained my Diploma in Marketing and then a BCom in Marketing Management.”

After joining the industry in 2007 as a graduate learner at Suncoast Casino, Ngubane was later employed as a guest service host in the marketing department.

Through hard work and by gaining more insight into the industry, he was then promoted to promotions co-ordinator at Goldfields Casino in the Free State in 2014.

A year later, Ngubane took up the role of promotions co-ordinator and subsequently advanced to communications manager at Emnotweni Casino in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. He recently made the decision to move back to his hometown of Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, where he joined Golden Horse Casino as communications manager.

His advice to those wanting to achieve similar success is: “Study, focus, develop yourself and lastly, surround yourself with great marketers.”

Asked what attracted him to Golden Horse Casino, Ngubane shares: “Golden Horse is beautiful, vibrant and, of course, I work and liaise with a wonderful team here. Every day presents new challenges and I get to learn new things.”

A typical work day for him consists of meetings, briefing agencies, responding to guest queries and overseeing the events and promotions which take place at the casino.

On a personal note, Ngubane describes himself as persistent, self-motivated, fearless and optimistic — a collection of traits that are synonymous with a good communications manager.

In his spare time, he enjoys listening to music, travelling and spending time with his loved ones.
