BRIAN dot Khoza’s vision is to give urban artists and young adults a place where they can perform their songs and watch poetry and rap music sessions.

However, due to an international artist’s performance this may expand internationally for the August 5, 1pm edition of #SmilingAfter
Poetry Sessions at La Casa in Q
uarry Road.

Pietermaritzburg rapper BB
Stylez linked up with poet and musician Luc Lang and local and international artists to do a collaborative song.

The song was inspired by soccer commentator Baba Mthethwa, a family member of Lang’s South African wife, who often recites a catchy slogan when talking about South African soccer.

The saying is “Bafana Bana Man” and became a greeting that Lang’s in-laws would use when Mthethwa would stop by their house in Vanderbijlpark, while on his way to comment on the games and he would be greeted by many in the family with the same phrase and because of this, it rubbed off on Lang.

Eventually Lang’s plan was to design a collaboration record that would honour the phrase, “Bafana Bana Man”, but more so, build a bridge between American and South African hip-hop artists.

The song features two-year-old his son Bophelo saying the phrase and is a collaboration between Pietermaritzburg rappers BB Stylez, Mic G, Sim Li and U.S. rappers Nio The Gift, Young Ziggy and Young Chizzle.

The song Bafana Bana Man is play listed internationally and is available at all major retailers worldwide including iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play and Rhapsody.

Lang will be performing spoken word poetry at the August 5 #Smiling After Poetry Session at 1pm at La Casa with hosts BB Stylez, Brian dot Khoza, Zolani G and Lil Anker.

The organisation that promotes reading and writing, Africa Must Read, will read excerpts of books and Khoza’s books will be on sale.

Lang will use his relationship with the Oprah Winfrey Network ambassador, Nikki Rich from the Nikki Rich Network in Los Angeles that has a global audience in the millions, to expose #SmilingAfter Sessions internationally.

Tickets are R50, with a 20% discount (R40) if bought before the day of the show.
