MSUNDUZI is set to finally get its own state-owned drug rehabilitation centre following the recent resolution by the provincial Department of Social Development (DSD).

This was revealed by the general manager for community services, Mbongeni Mathe, when he gave the portfolio committee a status update on the City’s temporary homeless shelters at Mayor’s Walk and Abattoir Road.

He said DSD recently informed the municipality of the decision to turn one of the shelters into a rehab centre. This was believed to have been influenced by the positive impact the shelters were believed to have had on the homeless who were relocated there in March when the national lockdown started.
