THIRTY-THREE-year-old Njabulo Njoko, from Slangspruit, was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for a house robbery which took place on June 6, 2014.
Njoko was sentenced by the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court last week after attending the trial for four years.
According to Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Captain Kholeka Mhlongo, the victim was alone in the house hanging clothes when the accused and his two friends arrived at the house in Ridge Park.
She said Njoko then pointed a firearm at her, forcing her inside the house.
“The victim was taken to one of the bedrooms where she was tied with a rope and her mouth was covered with a cloth. Suspects took her cellphone and left one to guard her.
“They then started ransacking the house before locking her inside the bedroom and fleeing the scene.
“Alexandra Road SAPS Detectives received information that three males were selling items in Slangspruit area.
“Members then followed information which led to the arrest of the 33-year-old Njoko and another accused who turned state witness,” Mhlongo said.
