Telkom’s silence on this issue

ON Monday morning September 18 around 1am the electricity was interrupted to many parts of our city for several hours for an unknown reason.

Later the same morning it was discovered that the telecommunications service was also not operational.

An unconfirmed source, reports that a large cable serving the northern suburbs was stolen and repair work will take several days.

Homes were obviously affected and many businesses are unable to function at optimum in consequence therefor several hundreds are affected.

An unconfirmed source on social media reported on Friday that he had stopped at the scene and spoken to the repairman, who informed him that he is unable to complete the restoration in one day, consequently at 5pm when the sun goes down his staff back fills the hole, only for him to discover the next morning that the replacement cable is missing and he needs to re-commence the repair work from the beginning.

I drove to where the repair work is being undertaken, corner of Twickenham Road and Montgomery Drive and spoke to apparently the same gentleman, he informed me that since the first theft and the replacement cable installed it was stolen four times in subsequent days.

This is an unacceptable and ridiculous situation.

Telkom would need to provide an assurance, that our rentals and unused data will be refunded to those affected, in full.

An official response is urgently, awaited from both Telkom and the SAPS.

In addition we look forward to restoration urgently, and without further delays.
