THE vaccine mess stems from a lack of proper procurement policies. As an ordinary citizen, I would have thought that the vaccine was tested before purchase.
A few samples of the vaccine could have been purchased and tested to see if it met local requirements.
And why was the expiry date not checked? With a lack of proper infrastructure, especially in the rural areas, the vaccine’s anticipated shelf life must be longer. And why is SA paying almost three times more per dose from the Covax facility? With growing unemployment, poverty and high levels of inequality, good pricing must always be factored in when purchasing.
