Cooke secures first About IT Tri race

YOUNG Keegan Cooke took advantage of the tough conditions on Sunday morning to take an early lead in the 2015 About IT Triathlon Summer Series with a great win.

This annual December Eastern Province Triathlon Association sanctioned Series is managed by Zsports Events NPC, PE’s only non-profit sporting events company.

Despite hard rains overnight and a strong South Westerly wind throughout the race on the weekend, the 18-year-old blitzed into the lead during the run leg to win in a time of 1hr 10min and 8 seconds from Ross Helliwell (1hr10m25s) and Gawie Henning (1hr10m41s).

Eight-times undefeated ladies’ Series champion Liza Kingston got her Series defence off to a great start, winning in a time of 1hr 20min 11sec from Genelle van der Riet and Amore Strauss.

Following round 2 which is taking place this morning (Wednesday, December 16) between Pollok Beach and Schoenmakerskop, the overall standings will start to take shape in this 4 race Series with some of SA’s top triathletes expected to take part, particularly for round 4 on Saturday, December 26, at Port St Francis, a race which usually attracts around 300 entrants.

Nutritech hampers and About IT medals are up for grabs for the category winners and the lucky draws after Round 4 will also include a Caltex R500 fuel voucher.

Full results and online registration are available on www.TriSummerSeries.co.za. Round 3 takes place this Sunday morning at Pollok Beach starting at 8am.
