BRAND-new bus embayments have been springing up around Gelvandale the past month.
The bays – five in Beetlestone Road, and the others in Springbok Street, Aubrey Street, Van Der Kemp Street and Gail Road, are not being built for buses though.
The embayments are being built for “feeder” taxis which will ferry passengers to IPTS bus stops along Stanford Road, according to Ward 10 Councillor Andy Jordan.
“The IPTS bus stops are far from where most passengers reside, so these feeder taxis will make the bus service more accessible by taking people closer.
“The fares for the feeder taxis will be included in the tickets purchased for the IPTS bus, so the feeder taxis will not take cash. Passengers need to only show their bus ticket.”
The embayments are not the only change the ward has seen recently. Two outdoor gyms have been erected in Gelvandale and Schauderville.
“I feel strongly about utilising open areas for outdoor gyms. Residents of all ages have been enjoying these gyms and these have deterred loitering and illegal dumping in these spaces.”
