IT’S that time of the year to clear wardrobes and donate towards the POPS Foundation’s annual winter drive.
This is the seventh annual drive by POPS (People Opposing Poverty in Society) and it launches on April 1 and runs until May 31.
As in previous years, the recipients of this project will be the most impoverished citizens of the metro. POPS will once again aim to distribute food, blankets and warm clothing among the neediest citizens residing in informal settlements during June.
The foundation provides more than 60 000 meals every month via soup kitchens, day care centres, children’s homes, shelter for homeless, old age homes, families in need and other institutions.
“We are again appealing to the community for their kind assistance in the collection of pre-loved warm winter clothing for adults and children and non-perishable foods, such as tinned foods, rice, samp, maize meal, pasta, sugar and soya mince,” said Mureedah Botha of POPS.
“These items are used to make up generous food parcels to assist these families. Even the smallest contribution makes a tangible difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
“Your contribution, however small, can make a huge difference this winter, open your hearts and your cupboards and help us to help them,” said Botha.
These items can be dropped at collection points or by contacting Mureedah Botha on 083 738 8436. The drop-off points are Beetlestone Kwikspar in Gelvandale, Summerbreezz Spar in Summerstrand, Aspen Spar, Linton Grange Spar, Little Cherub in Westbourne Road and the POPS Foundation’s office at 8 Kintyre Street in Kabega Park.
