A 22-year-old man will spend at least 12 years in prison of his total 15-year sentence after being found guilty of attempted murder.
Charles Anthony Dette was sentenced by the regional court on Thursday 19 November after he shot and wounded two people in June last year.
The victims, aged 19 and 20 years, were shot in Olympics street, Beacon Valley. The first victim was shot in the right leg and the second victim was shot in the right arm and buttocks.
The investigating officer was detective Constable Monro Eksteen of Mitchell’s Plain police station.
. In an unrelated matter, a 21-year-old man was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of ammunition after police found ten 10 rounds of rifle ammunition.
Police were busy with complaints in Kardouw Crescent, Tafelsig on Monday last week at about 15:15 when they received information about a man with ammunition in his possession.
On a search of the address the members found the 10 rounds in his possession.
. On the same day police also arrested an 18-year-old man who had a home-made gun.
Police crime prevention unit members were on routine duties conducting stop and searches in Stella Street, Tafelsig at about 20:00 when they spotted a man acting suspiciously.
When the officers searched the suspect they found a zip gun with one round in his possession.
The suspect was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition and has appeared in court.
