Woodstock police have opened an inquest docket after the death of an eight-month-old infant in a fire in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).
Details of the incident were still unclear at the time of publication.
However, according to City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Theo Layne, the baby girl sustained fatal burns in the fire that gutted a Wendy house in Pine Road.
Layne said the City’s Fire and Rescue Services responded to the incident at about 01:53.
The cause of the blaze had not been determined and Layne said the incident was handed over the police for investigation.
A Woodstock police spokesperson Constable Gilbert Khoza confirmed the inquest docket has been opened for investigation.
It is believed that the community is waiting for the City to finalise plans to move them as part of an affordable housing project.
