In the spirit of giving, the Mitchell’s Plain Lions Club have donated boxes of essential baby products to mothers in need.
Members of the club donated around 20 boxes filled with essential items needed for newborns. These items included baby clothes, wet wipes, nappies, baby soap and sanitary pads for the mother.
The handover took place on Saturday 13 November at the Mitchell’s Plain Midwives Obstetrics Unit (MOU) near Town Centre.
Bevil Lakay of the club says the items were collected from club members and locals who donated to the cause.
“The collection started last year November,” he says.
“We donated the boxes to the unit who in turn donates it to the moms in need.”
The Lions Club is centred around community and charity. The Mitchell’s Plain Lions are also running several other projects and are calling on anyone who is able to assist to donate to their causes.
“We are running a similar baby boxes project in June and would be needing baby items again. Our most important project remains that of hunger. We rely on donations to make up food parcels for needy members of the community,” says Lakay.
“Recently we received some equipment from the Mayors’ office with which we are able to make food, so we are looking forward to embarking on this as a project as well.
