The police are working closely with the Lotus River community to ensure that children are kept off the streets this school holiday.
More than 80 children packed the Lotus River Library on Thursday for an informative school holiday programme. Constable Lubabalo Balintulo of Lotus River Police Station spent the morning educating them on the importance of safety.
“It is very vital to educate children on the importance of safety, and the dangers of gangsterism,” says Balintulo. “The kids in our community see gangsters as their role models, and know no other way. If our parents can work hand in hand with us, and create more community upliftment projects, then we can surely fight this struggle.
“I am asking parents to play an active role in the lives of their children. Remind them not to speak to strangers and to never walk alone. Educate them on the dangers of drugs and encourage them to finish school, so that they can become the leaders of tomorrow.”
Balintulo’s appeal to the community is to support the police in all community upliftment projects, with the intention of leading children away from drugs and gangsterism.
