Children from Eastridge were fed and treated ahead of the Easter weekend.
El-Shaddai Soup Kitchen, a family-run non-profit organisation that has been in existence for the past four years, hosted an Easter egg hunt on Wednesday last week. The kitchen feeds around 200 people every Thursday but moved the day up to Wednesday for this week as a result of Good Friday. The children and parents were fed biryani while the children were also treated to colouring-in activities and a party packet. The soup kitchen sees husband and wife team, Pastor Shirley and Gregory Lawrence, and their sister Anthea Fortuin and daughter Celeste, cook and serve the food with the assistance of family friend Ada van der Vent.
The Easter egg hunt took place at the Eastridge Community Centre in Don Carlos Street where the soup kitchen has been feeding the community every Thursday for the past four years.
“We are pensioners and we do everything we can out of our own pockets with the donors,” says Gregory.
