LETTER: Happy hours are despicable

Nobody can deny that alcoholism has reached epidemic proportions, not only in SA but all over the world.

The amount of man-hours lost to business due to not pitching up for work on a Monday being “sick” is huge and 99% of the people are suffering from hangovers.

Kids are not being monitored as to the age they are served alcohol anymore.

Death on the roads has reached peak limits due to drinking and driving.

I think this thing that pubs and bars are offering a “Happy hour” where for an hour or so, you can benefit from drinks being ordered at half-price is despicable. Patrons down as much as they can, or afford in the shortest possible time during this happy hour, then go onto the roads and drive.

Where are the cops to catch these people before they start driving. They know that they are doing this at these public houses where drinking is rampant. To be inebriated is now considered cool! No thought is given to consequences at all.

Wait until one of their own kids are killed by a drunken driver.

If you drink, stay at home and then go to bed in your own home, or phone Uber!
