The public can now report anonymous crime tips through the My Saps app.
The app, launched by the police in partnership with Vodacom, allows users access to several features.
These include submitting tip-offs, locating the nearest police station or vulnerable services facilities and sending emergency messages.
To access the platform users need to register and create a profile.
When a tip-off is given, users are given the option to report the crime anonymously.
They need to identify the type of incident and supply details of the event and suspect information.
Users are provided with a reference number and the ability to supply further information about the crime or to follow up on the police’s progress.
Victims of crime are still required to register a case at a police station for investigation and insurance claims.
The app is available from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Feature phone users can use the USSD string *134*10111# to access the tip-off line.
