A special operation aimed at liquor outlets yielded success last week with a major bust.

On Tuesday 16 August at 12:45 Mitchell’s Plain police’s designated liquor officers and other police officers participated in a special sector commander operation in Rocklands.

Officers received a complaint of someone dealing in liquor without a licence in Cuckoo Street.

On searching the premises, police found 202.3F of liquor inside the residence.

A 47-year-old man was arrested for dealing in liquor without a licence.

“Mitchell’s Plain policing precinct experiences high levels of domestic violence-related crimes. Alcohol and substance abuse are seen as contributing factors for these types of crimes,” says police spokesperson Captain Ian Williams. “Unregistered and unscrupulous liquor dealers don’t comply with the law and often sell alcohol to underage people and people who are already intoxicated. We want to encourage those who drink to do so in a responsible manner. Licensed liquor outlets are encouraged to comply with the law and not sell to unregistered liquor dealers.”

All licensed liquor outlets are required by law to display their business name, liquor license number and trading hours.

Residents are urged to report all unlicensed liquor dealers.
