Operation Lockdown was conducted in Tafelsig East, Tafelsig West, Beacon Valley and Eastridge from Thursday 22 August to Monday 26 August. According to a statement issued by Mitchell’s Plain police spokesperson, Capt Ian Williams, Operation Lockdown is a multi-disciplined, integrated and intelligence-driven operation focussing on hotspots for murders, attempted murders, carjacking, and gang activity. “During the operations, 252 people, 132 vehicles, 94 premises and 104 residential premises were searched for drugs.”
A cordon and search was executed on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August. “A total of 30 fines were issued amounting to R38 200. A total of 32 arrests were drug-related, one was for possession of a dangerous weapon and 28 wanted people were arrested.”
Police also confiscated dagga (940.80g), tik (5.29g), crushed mandrax (2.54g), and heroine (12g).
