At the age of 12 she is already making waves on the dance scene.
Ashlyn Prinsloo from Strandfontein will soon leave to participate in a festival dedicated to the art of belly dancing.
The Miami Belly Dance Festival will be held from Saturday 20 August and Prinsloo will accompany six others to the festival to participate.
“She has been dancing since she was six years old,” says her mother, Vicentita. “They offered classes at her school and she signed up and loved it ever since.”
Ashlyn has also begun racking up accolades in the field.
“She was the first African Ciad (orinetal fusion dance competition) winner and also the first child to win and that was in 2014 when she was just 10,” says Vicentita.
Ashlyn also placed third in Miss Belly Dance South Africa last year.
“We are very supportive of her sport and we are always there for her to nurture her sport because we can see that she has a talent for it and that she will go far,” says Vicentita.
“She already does gigs and we always accompany her.”
Ashlyn initially attended classes for belly dancing in Strandfontein but has since moved to a school in Goodwood.
She currently trains at the HipNotize Belly Dance Academy and will accompany them to Miami.
“This is the only sport she participates in and she is working to one day have her own dance school,” says Vicentita.
