A 27-year-old Parkwood man was shot and killed on Wednesday last week at about 02:50 after sustaining a wound to his buttocks.
Grassy Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith says the station received a complaint of a shooting in progress at Beulah Court.
“Upon arrival at the scene officers found a group of people standing next to a car. In the car they found the victim. The victim was rush to hospital for medical care,” Kleinsmith says.
He died at the hospital at about 03:00, she says.
“A witness on scene saw two men, who are known to her, shooting at the deceased. They are affiliated with the Junky Funky gang and the deceased was affiliated with the Americans gang,” Kleinsmith says.
Four cartridges were handed over to the police by the community.
Kleinsmith says a 37-year-old suspect was arrested on the same day at about noon by members of Grassy Park’s serious and violent crime unit.
The second suspect is still at large.
Voice of Parkwood chairperson Paul Philips says he is worried about the shootings in the area.
“We are going to mobilise the community by holding either a march or public meeting. We cannot tolerate these shootings anymore. Something must be done,” he says.
