Registration to boost safety

In a bid to keep children safe, Pink Ladies volunteers teamed up with police and Ward 99 PR councillor Washiela Harris to host a child registration drive throughout the ward.

Volunteers were stationed at different locations in the ward on Saturday, from 09:00 to 13:00, to assist parents in completing basic forms.

The forms included the child’s physical description and other factors that could assist police in the unlikely event that the child should go missing.

Harris says it was decided to hold the registration drive following the recent Stacha Arendse case that happened in the ward.

Only three of the four locations were opened due to a lack of volunteers.

A total of 470 children were registered with ages ranging from one day to 16 years old.

“We received confirmation from Pink Ladies that this was the most children registered in one day at any drive. This was a huge success,” says Harris.

Dessie Rechner, Pink Ladies founder says the drive has picked up since the recent child deaths.
