Claremont police need the public’s help in finding two fraudsters who took money from three sisters and promised them a flat to rent in the area.
It is alleged that one of the men overheard the sisters talking about looking for a place. He jumped into the conversation, saying he knew someone who was renting out a flat. He identified himself as Blessings.
He then took them to a flat in Claremont where they met another man who said his name was Julian. Julian said he was moving out of the flat. The sisters were then introduced to a third man, identified as Derrick the agent who was renting out the flat.
The sisters agreed to take the flat. Derrick said he needed a cash deposit to secure the place for them.
They paid R12 000 and signed a piece of paper describing the details of the transaction.
Later they were given a lease that was not for the flat they had viewed but rather a flat in Newlands. The lease is not signed.
The sisters have had no luck in getting a hold of “Derrick” since then and it has dawned on them that they have been conned.
They opened a case at the police station and now the police are appealing to members of the public to help find these men.
