Spurs women keep title charge in regional soccer league

Spurs women saw off RV United 2-0 in a Safa Sasol Cape Town regional women’s league fixture played at Lingelethu Stadium on Saturday.

RV United fought back in all earnest but the steady defence players of the visiting team were a solid brick wall that withstood the volley of goal attempts.

Michaela Liebenberg, Spurs’ agile striker, gave her team an advantage in the first half with a brilliant goal.

In the second half the hosts were down while Spurs continued their accurate ball passes.

Kaylyn Jordaan, Spurs’ left winger, ensured her team’s victory in the 77th minute.

Santos women nailed Southern Stars 7-1 in their encounter at Loerie Park Stadium.

Celine Damons (5), Lucinda Croy and Megan Gaine netted for the hosts, while Joy Lindi scored the consolation goal for the visitors.

Cape Town Roses whipped Ikamva FC 6-0 in their important encounter played in NY 49 on Sunday.

The Roses were blossoming from the onset of the game, while the visitors struggled to curb a spirited host.

Booi Unathi (3), Vukapi Sisanda, Barker Roxanne and Cesanse Sinoxolo (one each) scored for the Roses.

Phoenix women FC shockingly trapped FC Tafelzucht women 2-0 in a Safa Cape Town regional women’s league encounter played at the Westridge Oval on Saturday. The hosts had many opportunities but their strikers failed to score from vital changes.

Striker Jamie-Lee Motlasi’s brace of goals secured a hard-fought victory.

Winnies women FC caused a major upset on Saturday at the Khayelitsha stadium when they hammered log runners-up Heideveld women 7-3.

On paper the visiting team was favoured to win, but their lack of concentration and negative approach was their downfall. The hosts, on the other hand, played skillfully and cornered the visitors with accurate ball dribbling.

Aphine Qgugula’s early hat tricks propelled them into a winning combination.

In the 33rd and 37th minute Anganathi Booi steadied the ship for the hosts with two quick goals.

With a first-half lead the hosts played with determination and kept the fort.

Neziswa Bidi and Siphinokazi Nqogela scored further for the host while the visiting team was falling apart.

In the last ten minutes of the game Fazlin Adams (2) and Kim Cloete scored for the visitors.
