Security will be on Sea Point’s streets 24 hours a day, as the Sea Point, Fresnaye and Bantry Bay Ratepayers’ Association’s “crime and grime” initiative launches a night shift.

The security presence has clocked a total of 6000 hours of visible and responsive security presence through the ProExec Segway patrols since August.

Adding the night shift is crucial to tackling crime as it increases security presence at critical times, says the Association’s coordinator Toni van Eyssen.

The initiative’s cleaning service, Straatwerk, has collected 812 bags of rubbish over and above those collected by the City of Cape Town. Residents and visitors on the promenade used 6425 doggy poop bags.

“It is important to remind all those involved that this is a multiphase project of which we are only a third of the way into the first phase.

“The goals of the first phase will properly be met once we have 90% participation rate from the residents of Beach Road and tributaries,” she says.
