A 21-year-old man was arrested when he tried to get rid of the ammunition he was carrying.
Grassy Park police who were busy with patrols on Saturday at about 02:45 received information from the public about a suspect with a firearm in Weltevrede Court, Ottery.
Grassy Park police spokesperson Warrant Officer Wynita Kleinsmith says the suspect was found sitting at the reported residence.
“When (the suspect) saw them he threw a packet on the floor and ran to the room. Members went after him and upon searching him found 50 whole and 150 halves of mandrax tablets in his possession,” Kleinsmith says.
The packet the suspect had dropped contained 30 .45-calibre, five 7.65 and four .357 rounds.
The mandrax found is estimated to have a street value of R5000.
