The City of Cape Town’s safety and security directorate held its first joint annual awards evening for volunteers last week Tuesday in the Civic Centre’s banqueting hall.

The awards ceremony acknowledged the contributions of approximately 800 volunteers across the law enforcement auxiliary service, the Disaster Risk Management Centre and the fire and rescue service. Some of those recognised have devoted as many as 25 years of volunteer service, while others have clocked up anywhere between 6 000 and 9 000 hours of service.

Ward councillor Leslie Isaacs handed the certificates to the volunteers.
