IT was a bleak start to the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence campaign as a woman in her fifties was reportedly raped behind a restaurant in Umtentweni on Friday night.

Lazer911 reaction members Robbie Pypers and Tiaan Vermeulen were at the restaurant when they were asked by a gentleman if they could help him find his wife, who had gone out for a smoke and not returned. They heard a lady crying for help, and found her behind the restaurant. She said she had been raped.

They spotted a suspect running away and gave chase. He was reportedly very aggressive but was apprehended and handed over to SAPS. A second suspect is still at large.

According to police reports, the men dragged the woman to the back of the premises before raping her. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.
