PORT Shepstone Regional Hospital staff and patients rubbed shoulders with celebrities last week when actors Luthuli Dlamini and Lucia Mthiyane paid them a visit.
Dlamini tested his cooking skills in the kitchen by assisting in the preparation of patient meals, a gesture the kitchen staff could not stop smiling about last Thursday.
Following him on Friday was Mthiyane who earned a bag of smiles from the wards which she toured with organiser of the visits and CEO of the Ugu Fill Festival, Senzo Zindela.
Zindela said the day was organised to encourage patients to persevere during difficult times.
“Further to their physical ailments, when people are in hospital they are usually emotionally down and despondent.
We wanted to do something to cheer them up by bringing faces
they normally see on TV to remind them that someone cares for
them despite their situation,” said Zindela.
Hospital PRO Phumza Morai said the days were the most enjoyable days for the hospital this year.
“Dlamini came right at the time that supper was about to be served in the orthopedic ward and he did not hesitate to roll up his sleeves and dish out the food for the patients with a big smile. It was an awesome moment for the kitchen staff,” said Morai.
