THE South Coast may be the resting place for retirees, but when it comes to dogs and their doings, we are on the ball.

Members of Hibiscus Kennel Club are passionate about their sport and spend many hours training and traveling to distant venues. We congratulate Sue McCay and her GSD Gita who did well at shows in Durban obtaining 99% in both. The cherry on the top was being chosen to represent KwaZulu-Natal in the interprovincial competition on 3 July.

Tracy Norton and her Boxers traveled to Gauteng for obedience trials where Badger achieved fourth place in the Novice division with 81% and Georgie as a Beginner achieved 85%. Georgie also participated in Agility and took third place in Non-Contact. Tracy is a very proud mom.

Renate Haussman attended the same show participating in Carting and Flyball and is ecstatic with the title of KUSA National Mini Carting Champion for her little Daschund Mein Schatz. Raven was awarded Flyball Champion.

Gaby Frey and Ninette Smith attended the KZN Champs in Pietermaritzburg where the poodles ruled.

Our veteran Scooby, already in her 12th year took second place in Non-Contact as well as Dog Jumping and her baby sister was right behind her in third place. Swish and Ninette took the first place in both Non-Contact and Dog Jumping.

The weekend of 19.06.16 was the turn of Margate Kennel Club to host the show at the Hibiscus Kennel Club which is on the Port Shepstone Borough Grounds. We had 46 handlers predominantly from the South Coast with some handlers running fourth dogs

Thanks to the municipality the field is in tip-top condition and the weather was perfect. Thank you to our local Dog Jumping judge Ninette Smith and to Dalene Tayler for the lovely courses and to our sponsors Montego and Bravecto.

We often forget that nothing happens without someone working behind the scenes and in this case the committee of HKC must be applauded for a job well done. Each member contributes in some way to make a successful event. Jeremy Brown, the chairman of Margate Kennel Club handed out the prizes and did an excellent job making every competitor feel special.
