RESIDENTS of the Munster and Glenmore areas say the crime has risen in the areas and much of it is to blame on uncleared plots and the lack of street lighting in hot spots.
Ward councillor for the area, Dave Watson, attended a meeting recently where these issues were raised and addressed.
“Residents said they have asked the Hibiscus Coast Municipality to clear these plots and to install street lights in dangerous areas for years, but nothing has been done,” he said.
Watson added that he will take these concerns to council and discuss a way forward.
In attendance were two members from police station who agreed that the area could do with street lights at strategic places.
There had been a near-kidnapping, where a child was almost snatched, as well as several muggings and robberies in certain streets.
“The SAPS was commended for their good work and for always assisting,” said Watson.
HCM spokesperson, Simon April, was approached for comment, but none was forthcoming at the time of going to press.
