THE Indigenous Music and Dance Festival was held at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre on Sunday.
Several traditional performers from within the district showcased their talents.
Artists performed ingoma (song), imfene (type of dance), indlamu (traditional dance) and isicathamiya (type of music).
The event was organised by Margate Museum curator Siya Sotsu.
“One of the focuses will being the training and education of these artists in other parts of the arts industry such as event management, exhibitions, management, publicity, festivals, publishing and recording,” said Sotsu.
The event also hopes to inspire artists to form independent co-operatives that can benefit them and teach them how to stand together and create a greater impact in the industry.
Auditions were held at the museum in November,
