FAMILIES gathered at Southcoast Mall on Saturday for the annual Tree of Light switch-on hosted by South Coast Hospice. The event symbolises a shining beacon of love and remembrance of lost loved ones.

Families lit candles and marched with a band towards the big tree made of Christmas lights. The band entertained with Christmas chimes as families counted down for the tree to be lit.

For some the event brought forth emotion, to others it brought hope. A member of Rajee family, Sumone, said the tree gives her hope.

“Seeing the tree all lit up brings me joy and hope.”
