A MARBURG widow says there is something very wrong with her electricity bill.
The home owner said over the past few months her electricity bill has gone up to sometimes R9 000, which before, was around R2 500.
Although the widow’s daughter, son-in-law and her grandchildren live with her, she can’t believe they use so much electricity and has brought this to the attention of Eskom.
“I have called Eskom to find out why my bill has become so high and they promised to send out an electrician to check what the problem might be,” she said.
However, the owner says nothing has been done since, so a private electrician was called in to check the meter.
“My brother called in an electrician to have a look at our meter box and found there were to many cables connected to our box, some of which are street light connections.”
She said the electrician said it is the municipality’s problem and its common for them to connect street lights to household meter boxes.
Eskom spokesperson Joyce Zingoni said Eskom’s technical team is investigating.
The municipality was also asked to comment because the blame has been placed with their electricity department, but at the time of going to press, no response had been received.
