TALENT across Ugu District will be recognised at the Ugu Local Awards (Ugula) to be held on 12 December at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.
Poets, musician and producers will be awarded for their hard work that has been going without recognition for a long time.
Youth in Action’s Wonder Nzimande said these are the first awards in this genre to be held on the South Coast, which they hope will give participants a stepping stone to better things.
“We have 20 categories - hip-hop, kwaito, poetry, production, maskhandi, to name a few, and we have male and female nominees in all categories.”
Nominations for the awards were entered earlier this year and selectors chose the final nominees in each category.
“After the nominations voting lines were open to the public and each nominee had a code, which voters had to use to vote for them,” he said.
Nzimande said most of the categories have five nominees, with poetry having only three.
The awards will showcase stage performances from hip-hop groups and artists Massive Entertainment, West Thabiso, Voodoo Tribe and poetry by Qhawekazi.
Guests who have confirmed their attendance are Zakwe and co-star Mzulu.
Tickets will be available at the Hibiscus Coast Municipality youth office at R80 for the first 100 people, R100 for the second lot of people and R150 for late purchases.
The red-carpet event will start at 5pm.
The colours for the night are red, black or white.
“We will be having a pre-party the night before at St Martins De Porres sports ground and tickets will be R50, at the gate.
