THE controversial ward of Shaka's Head in KwaDukuza Municipality, where a councillor was ousted and replaced on the eve of local government elections, was retained overwhelmingly by the ANC.
The removal of long-standing ANC councillor Jetro Banda made headlines when members of his community torched his car and house in February.
Banda himself pointed to faction fighting in the party that created a chasm between nominated opponents, with the tensions resulting in him being exiled to a plush coastal housing estate as he feared for his life.
According to results released by the IEC on their election dashboard, the ANC retained the ward with an 85.24% majority, followed by the EFF with 8.02%.
The victory for the ANC and the conclusion of the local government elections now means that Banda is no longer a sitting councillor, and will have to vacate his municipality sponsored home.
