Etete residents receive homes from KDM

THE KwaDukuza Municipality, together with the Department of Human Settlements, led by MEC Ravi Pillay handed over houses and title deeds to the community of Ward 21 in Etete on Friday.

The event saw the handing over of 86 homes which forms part of phase four of a project that will accommodate close to 6 000 people from the Khalafukwe community.

Two pensioners in the area, 72-year-old Moyipathee Jagganath and 79-year-old Michael Mthiyane, were identified for the official handover ceremony.

Speaking at one of the handovers, Pillay said that they are happy that the department has fulfilled its promise of delivering dignified homes to its people.

“We are happy that this day has come.

We know you had to wait for your houses and it is part of the ANC government’s commitment to service delivery and changing people’s lives,” he said. Ward 21 councillor Promise Dube thanked the community for their patience throughout the duration of the project and asked for their continued support in making the project a success. KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu congratulated the people of Etete on their new homes and highlighted that they are not finished handing over houses.

“There are still units to be handed over to deserving beneficiaries and I must commend the community for their patience.

Also, if it wasn’t for the support of councillors, ward committees involved, the project would not have been a success,” said Mthembu. At completion the Etete housing will comprise of 1 480 units.
