Ilembe thump Umzinto

ILEMBE Cricket Club took on Umzinto this weekend with Umzinto winning the toss and deciding to bowl.

A decent opening partnership of 33 between C. Pillay and A. Sarwar ended when Pillay was bowled by P.Pillay for 13.

Sarwar made 23 before he was caught behind by N. Prem by Pillay who was making early in roads into the Ilembe batting line-up.

A. Bageloo 9, Z. Ali 25, I. Mahomed 5, S. Logenathan 1 and M. Logenathan 2 were sent back to the pavilion as they could not cope with the tricky conditions at the time.

K. Ntuli and debutant N. Yousaf battled hard to resurrect their innings with Yousaf showing good touch with bat taking the total from 95/7 in the 28 over to a respectable 205/8 after 50.

Yousaf was caught behind of the last ball of the innings making 87, six 4’s, two 6’s.

Ntuli was 21 and was involved in a valuable 110 runs partnership with Yousaf.

Umzinto bowlers could not find the finishing touch as P. Pillay 3/33, V.M Slabbert 3/49 in 9 and A. Beeput 2/40 in 10 stood out.

In reply Umzinto got off to the best possible start with openers N. Prem and P. Pillay putting on a steady 55 before Prem was caught behind for 18 in the 17th of the bowling of S. Sadayan.
P. Pillay was joined by A. Pillay and they took the score to 71 in the 22nd over when P. Pillay was bowled by R. Mhlongo for 44.

A. Pillay 20, I. Khan 3 and T. Govender 1 took the total to 112/5 in the 34th.
Ilembe bowlers were fighting hard in the humidity keeping the game in the balance.

A useful partnership of 20 between A. Rajkumar and A. Ismail inched Umzinto closer to victory before Ismail was caught by I. Mahomed of S. Logenathan for 24 in the 38th.

With 12 overs remaining to get 73 runs the big partnership between A. Rajkumar and D. Govender were promising for Umzinto with Govender smashing three 6’s (25) pulling Umzinto in front at 164 in the 43rd before he was caught brilliantly by C. Pillay of the bowling of skipper I. Mahomed on the long on boundary.
Forty two runs of 42 balls was a bit to far for the rest of the batsmen as the last 3 wickets fell for 13 runs.

Umzinto were bowled out for 177 after 46.1 overs. Best bowlers for Ilembe I. Mahomed 3/10 in 3.1, S. Logenathan 2/24 in 5 and M. Logenathan 2/44 in 10 overs.
