HOME Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba was in a festive mood these holidays when he handed over Christmas gifts to 200 elderly people from impoverished homes.
On 22 December, 2015 about 200 people gathered at the Sibusisiwe Hall, in Mandeni, to receive presents from the minister.
Welcoming Gigaba, the Mandeni mayor, Siphesihle Zulu, said the municipality, in partnership with the minister and KZN member of Parliament, Makhosi Ntuli, decided to donate blankets, groceries and other gifts to the elderly and needy in order to make them feel that they are a part of the Mandeni community.
Expressing his joy, Gigaba said: “ I wish to thank all of you for the love that you have shown us, we are here because of you.
“Even [though] we come from government departments, we don’t forget that you are our parents.
“We wish you safe holidays and a peaceful new year.”
Gigaba said the senior citizens were given the presents because “it is common knowledge that the burden of caring for families usually rests with them”.
