Two swimmers in critical condition

TWO swimmers were rescued by the IPSS medical rescuer as well as KwaDukuza Lifeguards after encountering difficulties at a non-swimming beach in Blythedale on Sunday, September 23. Upon arrival, the rescue teams discovered that the swimmers had gotten into difficulty in the sea and had to be assisted out of the water with the help of members of the public.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst, both swimmers were in critical condition and advanced life support had to be initiated by paramedics on the scene.

“Due to the critical condition of the patients and limited access to the area, a helicopter had to be used to airlift on of the patients to Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre for further care while the second patient was transported by road to a nearby hospital,” he said.
