What’s up with WhatsApp?

IF you experienced any problems with the messaging service WhatsApp on New Year’s Eve, you were not alone.

Users across the globe have been complaining that their WhatsApp messages weren’t going through. Some of them thought it was connection problems with their phone or network, but a WhatsApp spokesperson confirmed on Reuters that the Facebook-owned service was experiencing an outage.

The spokesperson said: “Some people have had trouble accessing WhatsApp for a short period on [Thursday]. We’re working to restore service back to 100% for everyone.”

No official statement has yet been published on its Facebook or Twitter page.

The main problem appeared to be that the app couldn’t connect to the Internet, even if the user had a working mobile or Wi-Fi connection.

Not all users experienced the problem, though.
