R40 million bike sector investment in Metro

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor Dr Danny Jordaan welcomed Eastern Cape company Auto Motorcycles’ R40 million investment announcement.

Plans are to develop a 4 000 square metre piece of land next to the William Moffett Expressway to house a major retail outlet known as Queen Motor Spares. KTM Motorcycles will also be sold there and other tenants will be announced at a later stage.

Mayor Jordaan said, “Volkswagen South Africa is investing R4,5 billion, Goodyear R670 million, FAW is expending as well and local company Billson Trucks recently announced a R100 million investment. Now we have another investment in the bike sector. It is welcome news for our Metro.

“In addition we are also looking at diversifying our economy by growing the ocean economy, the creative economy and the township economy,” said Mayor Jordaan.

With its head office in Queenstown, Auto Motorcycles has been in operation for 40 years. The local franchise opened in 1999 in Albany Road and moved to Heugh Road in 2007.
