Pietermaritzburg – An exam hall was destroyed in a fire at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Pietermaritzburg campus in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The fire started around 04:00 and was extinguished about three hours later, UKZN spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said.
"Security officials suspect arson. An investigation is currently underway. University Risk Management Services and Public Order Policing are on high alert and monitoring the campus," he said.
This is the second fire at the institution in the space of two days. A fire destroyed a coffee shop in the cafeteria on the university’s Howard College campus on Monday night.
Lectures at the university had been disrupted for nearly two weeks due to student protests over possible fee increases.
