Western Cape legislature Speaker Masizole Mnqasela has landed himself in hot water after he visited a school in the Overberg area, celebrating his 40th birthday bash.
Mnqasela apparently visited the Hawston Primary School with a contingency of DA members, handing out shoes, and brought along a birthday cake which was decorated in DA colours, a direct violation of the South African Schools Act.
ANC Overberg secretary Derrick Appel said: "We have nothing against handing out shoes, but we are outraged that the DA violated the Schools Act. This was a blatant violation of the law by the Speaker, who should have known better than to take party politics into a primary school. The Speaker should hang his head in shame."
