A young mountain biker has been rescued by KwaZulu-Natal paramedics after plunging off of a bridge in Ballito.
The cyclist was mountain biking on a Ballito farm on Saturday, when he lost control of his bike and plunged several metres off the bridge, said IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Paul Herbst .
"Earlier this morning, paramedics responded to reports of a mountain biker that had plunged off of a bridge on a local farm," said Herbst.
"Upon arrival, paramedics ascertained that a boy had lost control of his bicycle and gone over the side of a bridge, falling several metres onto the rocky riverbed below. He sustained traumatic injuries."
The boy was stabilised on scene by paramedics, before being hoisted out of the gully using a rescue sled and ropes, added Herbst.
He was transported by ambulance to Victoria Hospital for further care.
