Cape Town – Police are searching for a 32-year-old man who allegedly flung his girlfriend’s seven-month-old baby against her Phillipi home’s walls and ceilings, killing the girl.

Andisiwe Mnandi told the Cape Argus on Tuesday that she woke up to feed her child at 01:00 earlier this week, when an argument broke out with her boyfriend.

The man then proceeded to beat her seven-month-old daughter, Inganathi, before flinging her body against the ceiling, walls, and prepaid electricity meter.

He then jumped on her body, despite attempts from Andisiwe’s seven-year-old sister to protect the baby. He then ran away. Inganathi died on the scene.

The mother’s family told the daily that the argument involved a phone call from another woman.

According to the Cape Times, the boyfriend shared an older child with Mnandi. He had spent two years in Pollsmoor Prison for shoplifting, and was released on parole last week.

Western Cape police said a case of murder was being investigated, and the man was on the run. He was wearing a white vest, a pair of navy and white shorts, and slippers.

Baby killer

In February, a man used his two-day-old baby as a weapon to attack his girlfriend, was arrested and appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court, News24 reported.

The woman told police that, during an argument in their flat, the man asked her if he was the baby's father, Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier said.

"He then hit the mother with the baby," she said.

According to Beeld, the mother told paramedics that, after hitting her with the child, the father threw it to the ground.

The baby died in hospital.
