A Cape Town police constable was the latest to appear in court this week for allegedly kidnapping two men and torturing them while holding them hostage in Philippi East.

Ngangaphila Samagaca appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Thursday and faces a list of serious charges, which starts with being part of a gang.

The 27-year-old, who works for the Table Bay harbour police, was arrested in a multi-agency operation, which had already netted Luvuyo Lwabi, 33, Nicodimus Pasapanodya, 32, and Andrew Seko, 25, on 24 January.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said they appeared in court on 25 January and were in custody. Samagaca was also remanded.

They allegedly snatched two brothers from their home in Tubelitsha, Cape Town, on 22 January.

They are alleged to have taken off in their blue Ford Ranger bakkie, which was found later at an informal settlement near Faure Drive.

The case was reported to the Hawks, and the victims were found and the three arrested. Two vehicles were seized.

Hani said the men were badly tortured.

The alleged kidnappers face charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and committing a crime as a part of a gang.
