A Khayelitsha attorney was granted R3 000 bail after allegedly being in possession of illegal drugs at the Bellville Magistrate's Court last week.
Lennox Pupa, of Litha Park-based Pupa Attorneys, is accused of being in possession of six packets of methamphetamine (known as Tik or meth) and 196 tablets containing methaqualone, better known as Mandrax.
He appeared in the same court building on Monday and faces charges of dealing, or alternately possession or use of drugs, under the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the 39-year-old father of two was granted R3 000 bail with conditions.
He has to sign in at the Lingelethu West police station on Fridays between 08:00 to 20:00.
The case was postponed to 2 December for further investigation.
Police said last week that Pupa was arrested after being excused from court because he appeared to be intoxicated.
A court orderly became suspicious of a plastic bag he was carrying, and on searching him, allegedly discovered the drugs in twists of paper torn from an advertising pamphlet.
The police allege that he had intended smuggling them in for a client. They put the estimated street value at R9 600.
