Correctional services' audit committee says full extent of irregular expenditure stands at R4bn

The Department of Correctional Services' audit committee on Friday told Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services that irregular expenditure for the department, as of 31 March 2020, stood at more than R4 billion.

In December last year, the Auditor-General of SA said the department had just more than R1 billion of irregular expenditure in the 2019/2020 financial year.

However, it gave it a qualified audit report.
