DA leadership hopeful Mbali Ntuli's crippling defeat on both of her recommendations to amend the party constitution could be a clear indicator of what's to come when the final tally of votes in the race for party leader is released on Sunday.
Party members from both camps who spoke to News24 on Saturday, were either gleeful or shocked by the bruising on the first day of congress. Ntuli has been seen as the underdog in the race as many federal and provincial leaders have placed their bets behind interim party leader John Steenhuisen. On the first day, the party's programme included a final five-minute plea from both candidates on why they thought they were fit for the job. An unscripted Ntuli spoke of a more inclusive, diverse DA which would ensure that all members had the freedom to express their opinions.
