Durban – A car crash on a major Durban freeway has led to the rescue of a dog believed to have been trapped in a stormwater drain for several days.

Emergency services officials were attending to a car accident on the N2 just after Nandi Drive when they heard the cries of a dog, Durban and Coast SPCA spokesperson Lindsey Fogarty said on Monday.

"The police called us around 00:15 on Sunday and Inspector Lucas Moloi attended the scene. The officials were surprised to have found the dog. The fire department was brought in to assist because the stormwater drain was about five or six metres down."
